Nantan's Project
Differencez
between schoolz (Indonesia and here edition)
Hi my name is Nantan. I just moved to New Zealand 4
months ago. I moved here because my Mom wants to study again, so I came with
her. My sister and I go to a new school called Glenavon School in Blockhouse
Bay, Auckland, New Zealand. Now I want to share my experience learning in other
country with you.
My school
In my school, we learn things in different ways. We
learn in groups with different activities in each group, in average there are
three groups our class has 3 groups we learn in groups because it
is sorted by the test marks if the test marks are high you get into the highest
group/ the third group if you get low marks you get in the lowest group that’s
the first one, in every group it’s different because the group level is not the
same.
The courses
here are also different from Indonesia the courses are these. The courses those
are different than Indonesia are the handwriting and the term topic activity.
In the term topic activity we have to use our entire learned math like
measurement, and volume, our term topic activity is for example making house
models for the term topic design and build. We have made house models our math
and measurements are useful for measuring and figuring how much area is
required and our crafts and arts are useful to help build the house what it
looks like what more do you need for more needs and arts is useful for painting
the house and designing the floor plan so it looks good and easy to see and to
follow and to know the house better.
In class we also use some special equipment for
learning and making things easier and to have some fun. We usually learn with
computer for our follow up activity like e ako math and kiwi kids news
homework. Follow up activity is when after you do some math with the teacher
you get a sheet for learning and then you do it in your book then you stick the
sheet into your book. We use the computers / I pad quite often because there
are math games on the I pad and e ako math on the computer. There is a drawer under each desk so you
don’t need to bring heaps of things in your bag only a lunch box, computers for
looking at the internet for the additional learning and math games, and a shelf
for math games and math resources, and also a rainy day box for when it’s
raining at morning tea or lunch we can get a math game or bop it game. And we
have a swimming pool for swimming every Friday or Monday for my room and there
is a good and clean library and you can borrow a book for a week in the class
we have 5 computers and in the cubby there are 3 I pads for math games and
internet searching or YouTube or sometimes video games.
The daily activities
here are also different from Indonesia. There is no assembly in the court in
the morning, at morning tea and lunch you have to eat your food first and the
canteen only opens at morning tea then after the second bell we go play
anything but I usually just walk and talk and. There is a special assembly on
Friday, where the rooms get a turn at hosting the assembly, there are just
dance, plays, challenges and so much fun, and there is a honor badges assembly
for about every 2 weeks for the years 7&8, they give honor badges to year
7&8’s for academics, art, citizenship, and innovation. And if they get
enough honors they will get an honor badge that is the ultimate honor at the
end of the year.
My friends….
Here even the friends are different from Indonesia
here. The biggest difference of the classmates here is the kindness and the
ease to get more friends. Also bullying is not allowed so there are no bullies
and the people are friendlier. But sometimes they like mocking so bad they get
in trouble. Boys and girls play along nicely because they are peaceful and they
are friendly, the background is very diverse my friends are from different countries
that mean they are from different ethnics like Joshua is from Samoa that means
he is Samoan, Raekwon is from New Zealand that means he is Maori. They mostly
speak English but some islanders from other classes speak Samoan or another
language like Tongan, Sophie and Jaice both communicate with Chinese. The
religions are mostly Christian, but, there are some that are Islam.
My teachers…
Here the teachers are also different. What makes the
teachers different are teachers do free
talk to students, they also get involved in things like soccer most of the
times, they are improper that means they don’t wear uniform, they are very kind
and helpful, for example like when Ahmad kicked my ball into the creek, MR.
Hunte climbed the fence and got it back, and they really mean what they say.
The same is they teach people and sometimes gets angry, till they send the
whole class on detention.
Closing
I
like schools here and schools in Indonesia and also it feels amazing going to
school here with the kind friends and the nice teachers that go on patrol every
morning tea and lunch, in the end I just want to say thank you for reading
readers and goodbye.
