In our community we will all have jobs.

We have been writing cv letters applying for the different jobs that are available.

Each job will pay a weekly salary, with that money we will have to budget in order to pay our rent and do the things we want to do.

We have started a list of things we can buy with our savings.

Tupou won this number plate in the class raffle - winning this saved him $1000

Norm Hewitt was AWESOME

Norm Hewitt was our motivational speaker today. He was an All Black and now works for the SPCA. He told us his story of when he was young and the hard times he had. He also talked about the importance of caring for animals in the same way that we care for people.
 Nearly everyone got his autograph!

Norm said some powerful things today:

"Don't underestimate the power of a dream."

"Never let anyone tell you can't be who you want to be."

"I truly believe in the dream."

"Have a dream, hold on to the dream, aim high."

"I choose to break the cycle of violence in my family."

We are learning to do our own statistical investigations

We are finding out information about our community which we will then display on graphs.

Motivational Speakers

We are so lucky to have some great New Zealanders come and speak to us every week. Here are some quotes from our speakers so far.

Check out our new technology in our class!

We have this TV in our class that helps us with our learning. Today we watched a short film about cyber bullying and learnt how we can avoid it, and what to do if it is happening to us.

Introducing Our Community

We took 'selfie' photos and then drew them the best we could!

Our community needed a name

Thunder (Ovalata) and Watch dog (Tupou)

The winning name is THUNDER, winning 13 votes to 7.

We all designed our own signs and names, and then as a class we voted on the top 4. Ms McDonell chose her favourite two, Mr Toomer said he couldn't decide on the best one because they were both so good so we decided to do a class vote to find a winner.

Congratulations to Ovalata who's design won! $1000 has been added to your bank account and you will get to select two friends to help you paint your design on the community sign for all to see.

Today we had a class debate about cell phones in schools. We started by reading an article about the pros and cons of having cell phones in schools. We were then split into 3 groups: Parents, Teachers, and Students. We had to decided if we agreed or not from the perspective of group we were in.

In our community each table group is like a real life street. We have come up with street names and will be painting them on our wooden street signs that sit on our tables.

Thunder is a community with values and rules that have been established and agreed upon by all members.
